New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday said that incidents of violence in Jammu and Kashmir, the Northeast, and Maoist-affected regions have declined by nearly 80 per cent since the abrogation of Article 370. He expressed confidence that violence in these areas would soon be completely eliminated.

Addressing the 79th Foundation Day celebrations of the Delhi Police, Mr. Shah said Maoist extremism across 11 states has long posed a significant challenge to the country’s internal security. He added that sustained efforts by security forces have led to measurable improvements in the situation.

The Home Minister laid the foundation stone for the Integrated Headquarters of the Delhi Police Special Cell, aimed at strengthening policing in the national capital. The facility, to be built at an estimated cost of ₹345 crore, is expected to become one of the country’s most advanced centres for combating terrorism and drug trafficking. According to officials, the complex will include a modern indoor firing range, war room, cyber laboratory, training halls, and advanced operational equipment. Mr. Shah said the headquarters would serve as a model for similar units across the country.

He noted that the Delhi Police Special Cell has played a crucial role in investigating major terror cases, drug syndicates, counterfeit currency rackets, and cybercrime networks. Mr. Shah also highlighted reforms introduced over the past decade, including the implementation of three new criminal laws, and inaugurated the first phase of the Safe City Project. He dedicated the Integrated Command Control Communication and Computer Centre, built at a cost of around ₹857 crore, to the people of Delhi.

Delhi Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora said that under the Drug-Free India campaign, over 6,000 kilograms of narcotics were seized last year. He added that the Special Cell is working with central agencies to track 32 fugitives operating abroad, with two extraditions completed last year.
