9th India Medical Device 2026: Govt, Industry Push for Globally Competitive MedTech Manufacturing

New Delhi: At Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi, the two-day 9th edition of ‘India Medical Devices 2026’ began on Friday. Policymakers, regulators, industry leaders, innovators, and other stakeholders participated in the event. The conference aims to provide fresh momentum to India’s medical device sector and further strengthen the country’s position as a global hub for quality medical devices.

The Department of Pharmaceuticals under the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers has organized this conference in collaboration with FICCI. Its theme is—“Towards Viksit Bharat: Advancing India as a Global Hub for Quality Medical Devices.”

The Secretary emphasized India’s progress in local manufacturing and stated that there is a need to enhance domestic value addition, component production, innovation, and quality standards to build the capability to compete globally in the medical devices sector.

Mr. Tushar Sharma, Chairman of the FICCI Medical Devices Committee and MD & GM of Abbott Healthcare, stated that this industry has invested significantly in R&D, manufacturing, clinical research, and skill development in India, leading to improved patient care, the creation of skilled jobs, and the strengthening of the country’s role as a global MedTech hub.

DCGI Dr. Rajeev Singh Raghuvanshi stated that India’s medical device sector is shifting from import dependence towards domestic manufacturing. He emphasized the need to enhance indigenous capabilities in high-end Class C and D devices and in-vitro diagnostics.

FICCI Director General Ms. Jyoti Vij stated that India’s progress will depend on innovation, R&D, robust supply chains, advanced manufacturing, digital technology, and expansion into global markets.

On the opening day, a White Paper titled “Strengthening of Service and Maintenance of Medical Equipment in India,” was launched. It emphasized the need for a robust and sustainable maintenance system to ensure the safety, reliability, and uninterrupted functionality of medical equipment.
