New Delhi: Under the National Olympiad Program 2026, India delivered its best-ever performance at the International Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Mathematics Olympiads. India won a total of 12 gold and seven silver medals across these four subjects.

This remarkable achievement includes a historic ‘clean sweep’ in Physics and Chemistry, where every Indian participant won a gold medal, securing the joint world number one spot for the country in both disciplines.

The Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) has attributed this success to the sustained efforts of the Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE). This centre identifies and trains India’s most promising pre-university students for global competitions.

DAE Chairman Dr. Ajit Kumar Mohanty described this achievement as the result of the students’ dedication, the guidance of mentors, and India’s robust scientific training ecosystem. HBCSE Director Professor Arnab Bhattacharya stated that these results further strengthen the Centre’s mission to nurture young scientific talent and promote excellence in science and mathematics.

The DAE also acknowledged the contributions of teachers, mentors, and partner institutions, including the Department of Science and Technology, the Department of Space, and the Ministry of Education, in strengthening India’s National Olympiad Programme.
