Amit Shah to Chair 10th NCORD Apex Meeting, Unveil Anti-Drug Vision 2026-29

Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah will chair the 10th apex-level meeting of the Narco-Coordination Centre (NCORD) in New Delhi on Friday. The Ministry of Home Affairs stated that representatives from central ministries, state governments, and drug law enforcement agencies will participate in the meeting, which is being organized by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB). The objective is to review and strengthen efforts to combat drug trafficking and drug abuse across the country.

On this occasion, Amit Shah will release the ‘Narcotics Control Vision Document 2026–2029. It has been prepared following extensive consultations with key stakeholders. According to the Ministry, this document outlines a comprehensive roadmap to tackle drug abuse. It calls for coordinated efforts focusing on demand reduction, supply control, and rehabilitation.

The Home Minister will also release the NCB’s 2025 annual report and inaugurate newly established NCB zonal offices in Jammu and Guwahati. Additionally, he will launch the ‘Online Drug Disposal Fortnight Campaign.’ Under this campaign, approximately 209,500 kilograms of seized narcotics—valued at around ₹6,000 crore—will be destroyed across the country in accordance with established legal procedures.

The objective of this campaign is to further reinforce the government’s commitment to eliminating illicit drugs and strengthening the nation’s anti-narcotics efforts by ensuring the speedy and transparent disposal of seized illegal narcotics.

According to the Ministry, the objective of this meeting is to give impetus to the government’s ‘zero-tolerance’ policy towards the menace of drugs and its resolve to create a drug-free India. The meeting provides an opportunity for various stakeholders to review control measures for the next three years and formulate an effective strategy to combat drug abuse.
