Union Minister for Agriculture & Farmers Welfare and Rural Development, Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, approved the large-scale procurement of pulses and oilseeds at the Minimum Support Price (MSP) across four states via video conferencing on Thursday. This procurement will be carried out in Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, and Haryana under the ‘Price Support Scheme’ (PSS), ensuring farmers receive remunerative prices and are saved from the compulsion of selling their crops at low rates.
Uttar Pradesh has benefited the most from the decision taken by Union Agriculture Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan. Approval has been granted for the procurement of 48,298 metric tonnes (MT) of Moong, 97,970 MT of Urad, and 41,718 MT of groundnut for the state during the 2026 summer season. The total MSP value of these approvals exceeds ₹1,490 crore. This decision is expected to provide significant support to farmers in the state who cultivate pulses and oilseeds.
Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan has also approved the procurement of 18,250 metric tonnes of moong in Gujarat for the 2026 summer season. This procurement will be carried out under the PSS, and its total MSP value will exceed ₹160 crore. This decision will help moong farmers in the state secure better market prices.
In the case of Tamil Nadu, the Union Minister has increased the procurement limit for moong (green gram) for the Rabi Marketing Season (RMS) 2025-26 from 885 MT to 990 MT. Under this decision, an additional 105 MT of moong will be procured. The total MSP value of the approved procurement is ₹8.68 crore, which will directly benefit the state’s farmers.
Similarly, the procurement of 2,115 metric tonnes of moong (green gram) has been approved for Haryana for the summer season (2026). The total MSP value of this procurement will exceed ₹18 crore. This move is expected to play a crucial role in providing price support to the state’s farmers.
This decision by the Centre is being viewed as a significant step in the interest of pulse and oilseed farmers, as it will enable them to benefit from the MSP and provide relief from the pressure of market prices. (PIB)
