Date:

New Delhi: Indian judokas won two gold medals at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games 2026 on Friday. Asmita Dey and Harsh Singh achieved a major milestone by winning India’s first Commonwealth Games gold medal in judo, while Yamini Maurya won a silver medal.

India concluded the competition with a total of two gold and one silver medal. This is considered India’s most successful performance in the sport since judo was included as a medal event at the 1990 Auckland Commonwealth Games.

Tripura’s 23-year-old Asmita Dey made history by winning the gold medal in judo at the Commonwealth Games. She defeated Canada’s Heidi Quach in a thrilling final in the women’s 48kg category. After losing an early lead, Asmita staged a magnificent comeback to secure the winning point during the ‘Golden Score’ period.

Subsequently, Harsh Singh also won a gold medal, achieving the distinction of becoming the first Indian male judoka to win gold at the Commonwealth Games.

Making his Commonwealth Games debut, 23-year-old Harsh Singh clinched the gold medal in the men’s 60kg judo category by defeating Australia’s experienced Olympian, Joshua Katz. In a thrilling contest, Harsh secured a decisive waza-ari with 41 seconds remaining and maintained his lead until the final moments to win the gold.

These historic victories by Asmita Dey and Harsh Singh gave Indian judo a new identity and ended a wait of over three decades for a gold medal at the Commonwealth Games.
