Intense Heat Grips Delhi-NCR as IMD Forecasts Rain and Thunderstorms Tomorrow

Date:

The weather pattern in Delhi-NCR is set to undergo a change during the final days of May. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a ‘Yellow Alert’ for May 28, warning of severe heat and a heatwave, while an ‘Orange Alert’ has been declared for May 29 due to the likelihood of strong winds, storms, and rainfall. This shift in weather conditions is expected to persist until May 31.

According to the Meteorological Department, the maximum temperature on May 28 is projected to reach 43 degrees Celsius, with a minimum temperature of 28 degrees Celsius. Residents may face discomfort throughout the day due to humid heat and heatwave conditions.

However, during the afternoon and evening hours, there is a possibility of strong gusty winds—blowing at speeds of 50 to 60 kilometres per hour—accompanied by light rainfall.

For May 29, the Meteorological Department has issued an ‘Orange Alert.’ Temperatures are expected to drop, with a projected maximum of 36 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 24 degrees Celsius.

Throughout the day—from morning to evening—there is a likelihood of storms and squalls featuring strong winds (40–50 km/h) and lightning, accompanied by light to moderate rainfall.

According to the Meteorological Department, the maximum temperature on May 30 is expected to be 35 degrees Celsius, with a minimum of 23 degrees Celsius.

On May 31, the maximum is likely to be 36 degrees Celsius and the minimum 23 degrees Celsius. While storms and rain are forecast for both days, the department has not issued any specific warnings for this period.

Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department indicates that humid conditions and cloud cover will prevail on June 1 and 2. On June 1, the maximum temperature is expected to reach 38 degrees Celsius (minimum 26 degrees), with the sky remaining partly cloudy.

Subsequently, on June 2, temperatures are likely to range between 40 degrees and 28 degrees Celsius. According to the department, relief from the severe heat is expected starting May 29; however, residents are advised to remain vigilant regarding strong winds and lightning strikes during the alert period.

It is advisable to avoid venturing out into open spaces while it is raining. In the coming 48 hours, the weather is set to undergo a complete transformation.
