IBO 2026: Indian Team win 1 Gold and 3 Silver Medals at the 37th International Biology Olympiad 2026

New Delhi: India won one gold and three silver medals at the 37th International Biology Olympiad (IBO) 2026, with all four team members securing a place on the winners’ podium. The 37th International Biology Olympiad, held in Vilnius, Lithuania, from July 12 to 19, brought together 307 students from 78 countries, where the Indian team delivered an impressive medal-winning performance.

India’s IBO 2026 Medallists:

Bhavyaa Gunwal (GOLD) from Mahendragarh, Haryana

Anmol Kumar (SILVER) from Mansa, Punjab

Nishit Kalani (SILVER) from Pali, Rajasthan

Soumil Maity (SILVER) from Howrah, West Bengal

The Olympiad included challenging practical and theoretical examinations covering advanced subjects such as molecular biology, physiology, genetics, ecology, systematics, computational biology, and evolution, which tested the participants’ analytical and experimental skills.

The Indian team was led by Prof. Rekha Vartak and Dr. Anupama Ronad, with Dr. Ranjithsinh Devkar and Dr. Siddhesh Ghag serving as scientific observers.

This marked India’s 26th participation in the International Biology Olympiad. To date, the country has won 17 gold, 69 silver, and 17 bronze medals, along with one ‘Honourable Mention,’ reflecting its consistent success in this prestigious  International Biology Olympiad (IBO).
