New Delhi: The Office of the Development Commissioner (Handlooms) under the Ministry of Textiles is organizing ‘Weave the Future 4.0 – Upcycling Edition’ at Dilli Haat, New Delhi, from July 12 to 17, 2026, to promote circularity, sustainable textiles, and innovation by bringing together artisans, designers, the industry, academia, and civil society.
Union Minister of Textiles Shri Giriraj Singh will inaugurate this program on July 13, 2026. The Ministry will launch the ‘What Is It Made Of?’ Textile Waste Innovation Challenge with the aim of promoting new and unique solutions for textile waste management in India. This challenge is open to students, artisans, designers, researchers, entrepreneurs, innovators, and citizens across the country.
Approximately 70.73 million tonnes of textile waste—comprising both pre-consumer and post-consumer waste—are generated annually in India. This initiative aims to promote circular design, innovation, and craftsmanship to transform textile waste into economic, social, and environmental value, while also creating green jobs.
Since its inception, ‘Weave The Future’ has promoted sustainable and circular textile practices by bringing together artisans, designers, brands, innovators, and researchers. Its fourth edition will feature over 100 participants presenting solutions—such as upcycling, recycling, repair, and circular design—aimed at minimizing waste and ensuring the responsible use of materials.
