India will host the ICAR-CGIAR Science and Partnership Week 2027 in New Delhi from April 12 to 17, 2027. This international event is expected to attract over 5,000 delegates, including agricultural scientists, researchers, policymakers, farmers, startup representatives, industry members and experts from the development sector from various countries.
The event will be organized by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), under the Department of Agricultural Research and Education (DARE) of the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, in collaboration with CGIAR. International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT) will serve as the host institution for this event. The primary objective of the conference is to foster innovation in the agricultural sector and strengthen global agricultural research and collaboration.
Dr. M. L. Jat, Secretary, DARE and Director General, ICAR, said the partnership has strengthened India’s agricultural sector. He emphasised sharing India’s advances in climate-resilient and digital agriculture, AgriStack, mechanisation, millets and natural farming with African countries through South-South cooperation.
The event will highlight India’s more than five-decade-long partnership with CGIAR. CGIAR operates 15 research centers across over 100 countries. 10 CGIAR research centers are working in India in areas such as crop improvement, water management, livestock, fisheries, nutrition and agricultural policy.
The six-day event will feature discussions on key issues such as climate-resilience, water and soil management, agricultural startups, public-private partnerships and the participation of youth and women in the agricultural sector. Additionally, deliberations will focus on extending the benefits of scientific research and innovations to farmers, as well as the role of agricultural innovation in achieving India’s development goals for 2047.
Dr. Ismahane Elouafi, Executive Managing Director, CGIAR, said the event would celebrate the longstanding partnership and shape priorities for the next 50 years of agricultural cooperation, while highlighting India’s contribution to agricultural research and knowledge sharing across Africa and Asia.
The first CGIAR Science Week was held in Nairobi, Kenya, in April 2025. The 2027 edition in New Delhi will focus on strengthening global partnerships, promoting South-South cooperation and translating agricultural research into practical outcomes. The detailed programme and speaker list will be announced in the coming months.
