PM Modi Inaugurates ₹34,200 Crore Development Works in Bhavnagar, Sets Vision for Maritime Growth

Date:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated projects worth ₹34,200 crore in Bhavnagar, Gujarat, marking a major step in India’s vision for maritime and industrial growth. The projects include port infrastructure, connectivity upgrades, and industrial development initiatives that are expected to boost employment and trade in the region.

Addressing the gathering, PM Modi recalled India’s historic role as a global maritime and shipbuilding power, noting that for centuries Indian ports connected the nation to the world’s major trade routes. He criticised the Congress governments for the collapse of the shipbuilding ecosystem, saying that neglect and shortsighted policies weakened a sector that once stood as a pillar of India’s economic strength.

The Prime Minister underlined his government’s commitment to self-reliance in the maritime sector. He stated that under the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat and Amrit Kaal, India is advancing towards next-generation reforms in shipbuilding, port management, and global trade facilitation.

Highlighting India’s current position, Modi said that the country accounts for 10% of global maritime trade and set an ambitious target to triple this share by 2047, when India celebrates 100 years of independence. He emphasised that achieving this goal will require modernization of shipyards, expansion of ports, promotion of coastal shipping, and encouragement of private sector participation.

The Bhavnagar projects, the Prime Minister added, will not only transform Gujarat’s coastal economy but also strengthen India’s overall maritime ambitions. He said these investments represent the government’s vision of turning India into a leading global maritime hub in the decades to com
