On Tuesday, Modi met with Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen in Oslo, the capital of Norway. During the meeting, the two leaders discussed ways to deepen and strengthen their bilateral relationship.
Several senior officials were present at the meeting, including External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, and Secretary (West) at the Ministry of External Affairs, C.B. George. Prime Minister Modi and Mette Frederiksen had held a similar dialogue last September, during which both leaders reiterated their commitment to further strengthening their ‘Green Strategic Partnership.’
On the same day, Prime Minister Modi also met with Icelandic Prime Minister KatrÃn Jakobsdóttir in Oslo. Additionally, he held discussions with Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo; these interactions took place ahead of the 3rd India-Nordic Summit. The Ministry of External Affairs stated that this summit builds upon the momentum generated by previous summits held in 2018 (Stockholm) and 2022 (Copenhagen). Its objective is to comprehensively strengthen ties between India and the Nordic countries across various sectors, including technology, innovation, green energy, sustainable development, the Blue Economy, defense, space, and sustainability.
Prime Minister Modi arrived in Norway on Monday as part of the fourth leg of his five-nation tour. Upon his arrival at the airport, he was welcomed by Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre. Extensive discussions were held between the two Prime Ministers on Monday, covering a wide range of subjects such as trade, investment, green energy, the Blue and Circular Economies, education, science and technology, arts and culture, space, and multilateral cooperation.
Both nations agreed to further consolidate the India-Norway relationship as a “Green Strategic Partnership.” Furthermore, new opportunities for investment, technological collaboration, and job creation under the India-EFTA trade framework were also discussed.
Prime Minister Modi also participated in the India-Norway Business and Research Roundtable in Oslo, where he highlighted growing opportunities for economic cooperation. He also met with King Harald V of Norway at the Royal Palace. During this period, he was conferred with Norway’s highest civilian honor, the “Grand Cross of the Royal Norwegian Order of Merit.”
