BJP MP Kiran Choudhry Defends Waqf Amendment Bill, Criticizes Congress for Objections

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Kiran Choudhry has strongly defended the Waqf Amendment Bill, countering opposition claims, particularly from the Congress party, that the legislation is unconstitutional. Speaking in a recent interview, Choudhry accused Congress of lacking an agenda and resorting to criticism without merit.

"Congress finds everything unconstitutional. Now that they have no agenda, they are saying all these things," Choudhry remarked. "The truth is that with this bill, things will get streamlined and benefit the needy."

The Waqf Amendment Bill, which is currently being debated in Parliament, aims to reform the management and use of Waqf properties, which are traditionally held for religious, charitable, or educational purposes in the Muslim community. Supporters of the bill, including Choudhry, argue that the changes will ensure better transparency, accountability, and use of these properties, which in turn will help provide essential services such as schools, colleges, and welfare programs for the marginalized sections of society.

Choudhry dismissed the concerns raised by Congress, calling their objections politically motivated. "This bill is a step towards simplifying and streamlining the management of Waqf properties," she explained. "The aim is to ensure that these properties are used effectively to benefit those who need it the most, particularly the economically disadvantaged."

While the bill has been praised by BJP leaders, it has also drawn criticism from opposition parties, with Congress questioning the legality and constitutional validity of certain provisions. Critics argue that the bill could lead to greater government interference in the administration of Waqf properties, potentially undermining the independence of the religious institutions that manage them.

Despite these concerns, Choudhry remains firm in her belief that the legislation will bring about much-needed reform and ultimately contribute to the welfare of the poor and underprivileged. She also stressed that the bill aligns with the government's broader goal of ensuring social equity and inclusive development.

As debates on the Waqf Amendment Bill continue, it remains to be seen whether the legislation will pass without significant amendments or if opposition voices will shape its final form.
