Dehradun: Pushkar Singh Dhami extended a heartfelt welcome and greetings to devotees as the sacred Char Dham Yatra 2026 commenced in Uttarakhand, marking the beginning of one of Hinduism’s most significant pilgrimages.

The annual yatra began on the auspicious occasion of Akshaya Tritiya, with the opening of the portals of Gangotri and Yamunotri, symbolising the formal start of the pilgrimage season.

Chief Minister Dhami conveyed his best wishes to pilgrims and said that “Devbhoomi Uttarakhand warmly welcomes all devotees”, urging them to follow guidelines and contribute to making the pilgrimage environmentally sustainable.

Focus on Safety and Facilities

The state government has made extensive arrangements to ensure that the yatra is safe, smooth, and well-organised. Authorities have strengthened security measures, improved infrastructure, and enhanced medical facilities across all pilgrimage routes.

Officials highlighted that special attention has been given to managing the large influx of pilgrims, with coordinated efforts from multiple departments to maintain order and convenience during the journey.

Strong Response from Devotees

The Char Dham Yatra has witnessed over 18.9 lakh registrations even before the start, reflecting massive enthusiasm among devotees. Among the four shrines, Kedarnath has recorded the highest number of registrations, followed by Badrinath, Gangotri, and Yamunotri.

Spiritual Journey Across the Himalayas

The pilgrimage traditionally begins from Haridwar or Rishikesh and covers four sacred shrines—Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath—located in the Himalayas. It attracts lakhs of devotees every year seeking spiritual fulfillment and blessings.

Environmental Appeal

CM Dhami also appealed to pilgrims to make the yatra plastic-free and environmentally responsible, emphasising the importance of preserving the fragile Himalayan ecosystem while undertaking the sacred journey.

The Char Dham Yatra 2026 not only reflects deep religious faith but also plays a crucial role in boosting tourism and the local economy of Uttarakhand. With improved arrangements and strong participation, the pilgrimage is expected to be both spiritually enriching and well-managed this year.
