New Delhi — Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Tuesday announced a major financial allocation to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), crediting ₹870 crores to support civic development initiatives, including a new waste-to-energy plant.

In her statement, Gupta emphasized the efficiency and coordination achieved under the “triple-engine government” — a term often used to describe the synergy between the central government, state government, and local municipal bodies when governed by the same party.

“This is the benefit of the triple-engine government that the people of Delhi are getting. Today, we have credited ₹870 crores to the MCD. It will help the MCD initiate its waste-to-energy plant,” Gupta said.

The waste-to-energy project aims to address Delhi’s mounting garbage crisis and improve sanitation infrastructure. The initiative is seen as a step toward sustainable urban development, aiming to convert waste into usable energy while reducing the city’s landfill burden.

The announcement comes amid the ongoing efforts by the Delhi administration to enhance civic amenities, streamline waste management, and promote cleaner urban living conditions. Officials noted that the fund allocation will fast-track groundwork and procurement for the energy plant, with an expected timeline for rollout to be shared soon.
