Delhi CM Rekha Gupta Presents ₹1.03 Lakh Crore ‘Green Budget’ for 2026–27, Focus on Infrastructure and Environment

New Delhi, March 24: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Tuesday presented the Budget 2026–27 in the Assembly, announcing a ₹1,03,700 crore outlay, significantly higher than last year.


‘Green Budget’ with 21% Allocation for Environment

CM Gupta described the budget as a ‘Green Budget’, emphasizing sustainability and environmental protection.

  • 21% of the total budget has been allocated for environmental initiatives
  • Policies are designed keeping in mind future generations and climate concerns

Revenue Sources and Expenditure Breakdown

The Chief Minister outlined key revenue sources:

  • ₹900 crore from non-tax revenue
  • ₹591 crore from Central Road Fund
  • Around ₹2,500 crore expected from central government schemes

She also noted that 70.3% of the total budget has been earmarked for revenue expenditure.


Major Boost for MCD

In a significant move, the government has allocated ₹11,666 crore to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi—the highest-ever provision for the civic body.


Focus on Infrastructure and Urban Development

The budget prioritizes infrastructure and urban development with major allocations:

  • ₹5,921 crore for Public Works Department (PWD)
  • ₹7,887 crore for urban development
  • ₹300 crore for Yamuna development
  • ₹800 crore for slum development
  • ₹787 crore for rural development
  • ₹914 crore for development department

Road Development and Local Area Projects

CM Gupta announced a major push for road infrastructure:

  • Target to develop 7,000 km of roads
  • ₹1,392 crore allocated for road construction and upgradation

Additionally:

  • ₹350 crore earmarked for MLA local area development
  • ₹186 crore allocated for NDMC and Delhi Cantonment areas

The budget reflects a focus on sustainable urban development, improved infrastructure, and inclusive growth, positioning Delhi towards a greener and more modern future.
