New Delhi: In a major boost to India’s aviation infrastructure and the Delhi-NCR connectivity network, the Noida International Airport (Jewar Airport) has received its final security clearance, paving the way for the possible start of commercial flight operations in the first week of June 2026. The development marks one of the final and most crucial regulatory milestones before the long-awaited airport becomes operational.

According to officials, the clearance was granted after the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) approved the Aerodrome Security Programme (ASP), confirming that the airport’s security systems, protocols, and operational preparedness meet all mandatory national standards. The approval signals that all core safety frameworks are now in place, allowing authorities to move ahead with final coordination with airlines and other stakeholders.

Sources indicate that following this clearance, airline partners including IndiGo, Air India Express, and Akasa Air are expected to begin preparations for ticket sales and schedule finalisation for domestic routes. The airport’s launch is now being aligned with operational readiness checks and airline coordination, with officials stating that commercial services are likely to begin in early June.

The security approval also comes shortly after key administrative changes at the airport, including the appointment of a new Indian interim CEO, a move aimed at addressing regulatory requirements and streamlining the launch process. Authorities believe this leadership transition has helped resolve pending compliance issues and accelerate final approvals.

Officials familiar with the development said that the clearance confirms that critical safety infrastructure—including surveillance systems, passenger screening procedures, emergency response protocols, and access control mechanisms—is fully operational and compliant with aviation norms. The airport is now expected to move into its final phase of readiness, which includes coordination with aviation regulators for the commencement of flight schedules.

The Noida International Airport, located in Jewar in Uttar Pradesh’s Gautam Buddh Nagar district, is being developed as a greenfield aviation hub designed to significantly reduce congestion at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport. Once operational, it is expected to serve as a major aviation gateway for the National Capital Region and western Uttar Pradesh, improving both domestic and future international connectivity.

In its first phase, the airport is planned to handle millions of passengers annually, with modern infrastructure including a single runway and a state-of-the-art terminal. Authorities have stated that the facility is being developed with long-term expansion capabilities, allowing it to scale up operations as passenger demand grows over the coming years.

Aviation experts believe that the launch of the airport will mark a transformational shift in regional air travel, offering improved connectivity to several tier-2 and tier-3 cities while reducing operational pressure on Delhi airport. It is also expected to boost economic activity in the surrounding region, particularly in logistics, hospitality, and real estate sectors.

With the final security clearance now in place, the project has entered its last stretch before take-off. Officials have indicated that all systems are being aligned for a smooth operational launch, with the focus now shifting to airline integration, scheduling, and passenger readiness.

If timelines remain on track, the first commercial flight from Noida International Airport could take off in the first week of June 2026, marking a significant milestone in India’s expanding aviation landscape.
