At least two people died and 11 were injured after a four-storey building collapsed at Naik Nagar in Kurla East, Mumbai late on Monday night. More people are feared to be trapped under the rubble, said local corporator Pravina Morajkar. Rescue and relief operations are underway.

The incident was reported at 11.52 pm last night. The fire brigade dispatched seven trucks, two rescue vans, and ambulances for rescue and relief operations. Initially, the fire brigade had said there could be nearly 20 people trapped under the debris.

"This is a colony of four dilapidated buildings, and they were given notice to vacate five to six years ago. Yet, the residents continued to stay. On Monday night, one building collapsed. But five to six people were removed from the debris before the fire brigade came. They are being treated and sent to hospitals for injuries, "Morajkar said last night.
