Pakistan Avoiding Match Shows Fear of Defeat, Says BJP MP Shashank Mani; Defends Union Budget

Delhi: Reacting to reports that Pakistan may boycott its match against India in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, BJP MP Shashank Mani on Saturday said the move reflects a lack of sporting spirit and fear of defeat.

Commenting on the issue, Mani said that when players realise they cannot win, they tend to walk away from the field. He stated that if a team is participating in a championship, it should play without discrimination or hesitation. Drawing parallels with past conflicts, the BJP MP said India has prevailed against Pakistan earlier and would have done so on the cricket field as well. “That is why they are not even playing,” he remarked.

The BJP MP also responded to Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi’s criticism of the Union Budget, questioning whether the Congress leader had fully understood its intent and vision. Mani said Prime Minister Narendra Modi has set a 25-year roadmap for achieving Viksit Bharat, and the Budget aligns with that long-term national goal.

Highlighting India’s economic progress, he said the country is currently the fourth-largest economy in the world and is on track to become the third-largest soon. He contrasted this with the period when India was the 11th-largest economy under previous Congress-led governments.

Calling the Union Budget “concrete, inspiring and inclusive,” Mani said it reflects the government’s commitment to sustained growth, development and national progress.
