New Delhi: In a warm gesture underscoring the deep cultural ties between India and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed the President of the UAE, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, along with his family, at his official residence on Lok Kalyan Marg.

During the visit, PM Modi presented Sheikh Mohamed with a Royal Carved Wooden Jhula (swing), a traditional handcrafted piece originating from Gujarat, India. The jhula is renowned for its exquisite craftsmanship, featuring intricate floral and traditional designs skillfully carved by artisans. This wooden swing is more than just a decorative item in Gujarati culture; it represents togetherness, conversation, and bonding across generations within families.

The gift was chosen with great thoughtfulness, as it holds a special cultural significance in Gujarat’s heritage and perfectly aligns with the UAE’s declaration of 2026 as the Year of Family. The jhula’s symbolism of unity and familial bonding resonates deeply with the UAE’s focus on strengthening family values during the coming year.

This exchange highlights the spirit of friendship and cooperation between the two countries, reflecting shared values and mutual respect. The visit and the cultural gift further reinforce the growing strategic partnership between India and the UAE, encompassing economic collaboration, cultural exchange, and people-to-people connections.

Prime Minister Modi’s presentation of the wooden jhula not only celebrated India’s rich artisanal traditions but also served as a meaningful token of goodwill, emphasizing the importance of family and unity in both nations’ social fabrics.
