Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya on Monday hailed the passage of the National Sports Governance Bill and the National Anti-Doping (Amendment) Bill in Parliament, calling them key milestones in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s structural reform agenda for the sports sector.

“Today, the Parliament has passed the Sports Bill. It is a part of PM Modi’s structural reform in the sports sector,” Mandaviya said, outlining the ambitious goals set by the legislation. According to him, the bill envisions India’s athletes securing global rankings between 1st and 10th within the next decade, and breaking into the top five when the country celebrates its centenary of independence.

Mandaviya emphasised that the Sports Governance Bill ensures an athlete-centric system, designed to strengthen governance across national sports federations. The legislation mandates fast, time-bound dispute resolution, greater representation for women in federations and ethics commissions, and enhanced opportunities for persons with disabilities to participate in sports.

He further noted that the reforms will bring transparency, accountability, and efficiency to sports administration in India. “I believe that this bill is a historic bill that will change the direction of the country’s sports in the coming days,” he asserted.

The bill also complements the National Anti-Doping (Amendment) Bill, aimed at aligning India’s anti-doping framework with global best practices to protect the integrity of competitive sports.
