Union Minister Sanjay Seth has expressed strong support for the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, calling it a timely and much-needed reform that has garnered widespread approval across the country. Seth emphasized that the passing of the bill brings happiness not only to the Muslim community but to all 140 crore citizens of India, as it addresses long-standing concerns about the management and misuse of Waqf properties.

"Waqf was the need of the hour... it has made 140 crore countrymen happy. People from the Muslim community are happy," Seth said, highlighting the bill’s significance in restoring fairness and transparency in the administration of Waqf properties. He noted that for years, the Waqf system had been plagued by misuse, with properties not being managed effectively for the welfare of the community.

The Union Minister continued, "Earlier, Waqf was misused... now there is a wave of happiness across India." His remarks reflect the government's view that the amendments will not only bring about better governance in religious institutions but also promote social welfare, particularly by ensuring that Waqf properties are used for public benefit, such as in the areas of education, healthcare, and community development.

Seth’s comments come in the wake of the bill’s passage in the Lok Sabha, which has sparked significant political debate. Supporters, including members of the ruling BJP, have praised the bill as a necessary step toward modernizing and regulating the management of Waqf properties, while critics from opposition parties have raised concerns over its potential impact on religious rights and community autonomy.

The Waqf Amendment Bill 2024 seeks to overhaul the management structure of Waqf properties, ensuring that they are used transparently and for the benefit of society as a whole. As the bill moves through its legislative process, it continues to attract both praise and criticism from different quarters of Indian politics.
