The Waqf Amendment Bill 2025 has been passed in the Lok Sabha, marking a pivotal moment in the government’s effort to ensure greater empowerment and inclusivity for the underprivileged Muslim community. The bill, which seeks to address long-standing issues within the administration of Waqf properties, has garnered significant attention due to its potential impact on marginalized sections of society.

BJP Leader CR Kesavan hailed the passing of the bill as a "watershed victory" for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's transformative politics, underscoring the government’s commitment to social justice and the empowerment of all communities. Speaking after the passage of the bill, Kesavan emphasized that this legislative move would pave the way for a "new golden era of progress and prosperity" for the Muslim community, particularly those who have long been excluded from the benefits of socio-economic development.

“This bill is not just a legal measure, but a crucial step in ensuring the upliftment of the underprivileged Muslim community. It reflects the government’s determination to make the Waqf properties more transparent and accessible for the people they are meant to serve. It will ensure that the benefits of these properties, which were often mismanaged in the past, will now reach the most deserving sections of society,” Kesavan remarked.

The Waqf Amendment Bill seeks to bring about major reforms in the management of Waqf properties, which are designated for charitable purposes, particularly for the Muslim community. The bill aims to modernize the administration of these properties, ensuring more transparency, accountability, and better utilization for public welfare.

Historically, many Waqf properties have been subject to mismanagement and encroachments, and the new amendment seeks to address these issues by ensuring that the benefits of these assets are directed to those in need. The bill also proposes the inclusion of marginalized Muslims and other groups in the decision-making processes related to Waqf property administration, giving them a larger voice in how resources are distributed.

Kesavan further stressed that this bill is a significant milestone in the Modi government’s agenda of empowerment for all communities, particularly those who have been historically deprived of opportunities. “This is a victory for the people who have long been marginalized, and a testament to the government's commitment to social justice,” he added.

Opposition parties, however, have raised concerns over the bill, questioning its broader implications and accusing the government of using the legislation for political purposes. Despite this, the BJP has defended the bill, portraying it as a step forward in making governance more inclusive and accessible to all, regardless of their background.

As the bill moves to the Rajya Sabha, all eyes are now on whether it will receive the same level of support or face challenges in the upper house. However, the passing of the Waqf Amendment Bill in the Lok Sabha is being seen as a significant victory for the government’s agenda of ensuring the equitable distribution of resources, particularly for underprivileged sections of society.

For the BJP, the passage of this bill is a clear demonstration of their commitment to ensuring that social reforms are implemented, with a focus on empowering the marginalized and working towards a more inclusive society.
