Rajnath Singh Pays Tribute to Lal Bahadur Shastri’s Leadership During 1965 War

Date:

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday reflected on the enduring legacy of former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri, highlighting his pivotal leadership during the 1965 India-Pakistan war. Speaking at an event in Delhi, Singh emphasized that the victory of a nation in wartime is never achieved solely on the battlefield but is the result of the collective resolve of its people.

“In that difficult time of 1965, when there was uncertainty and challenges all around, the country faced those challenges under the resolute leadership of Lal Bahadur Shastri,” Singh said. He credited Shastri for providing decisive political guidance and for uplifting the morale of the nation, ensuring unity during a critical phase of India’s history.

Rajnath Singh recalled Shastri’s iconic slogan “Jai Jawan, Jai Kisaan”, noting that it not only honoured the courage of India’s soldiers but also celebrated the farmers who sustain the nation. “In this one slogan, along with the honour of our brave soldiers, the pride of our food providers was also included,” he remarked, calling it a timeless message of national strength and self-reliance.

The Defence Minister said Shastri’s leadership continues to inspire India, reminding citizens that security and food sovereignty are equally vital for the country’s progress. Singh urged the younger generation to draw lessons from Shastri’s vision of unity, courage, and dedication to the nation’s welfare
