Rs 206 Crore Safety Initiative: Indian Railways Rolls Out Kavach 4.0 on Key Delhi Division Routes

Date:

Delhi: Indian Railways has taken another significant step towards strengthening railway safety. Under this initiative, approval has been granted to implement ‘Kavach Version 4.0’ across a total of 680 route kilometers (RKm)—covering the Rewari-Delhi and Shakurbasti-Bathinda routes, as well as their associated feeder branch lines—within the Delhi Division of Northern Railway. The initiative will be executed with an investment of ₹206 crore.

This project is part of the ongoing plan to implement the Indian Railways’ ‘Kavach’ system across the country. Its objective is to expand this indigenous safety system to high-traffic and strategically important routes.

Kavach is India’s indigenous Automatic Train Protection (ATP) system that enhances railway safety by preventing SPAD incidents and collisions. It monitors train movements, applies brakes when required, and enables safe operations even in challenging conditions like dense fog.

The implementation of ‘Kavach Version 4.0’ on these key routes will enhance railway safety, boost operational efficiency, and facilitate faster, more reliable services for both passenger and freight trains.
