Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta handed over long-pending ex-gratia payments of ₹1 crore each to the families of frontline workers who lost their lives while performing their duties during the COVID-19 pandemic. An official provided this information on Thursday.
On the social media platform X, the Chief Minister stated that the contribution of frontline workers who made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty would always be remembered. She affirmed that the Delhi government is fully committed to fulfilling its responsibilities towards their families.
Earlier, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta met with sanitation workers from the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) and commended their services. Describing their contribution to making the capital clean and beautiful as vital, she shared a meal with them and expressed gratitude for their dedication.
This event was organized to mark the launch of the door-to-door garbage collection and secondary transportation project in the West Delhi municipal area. The Chief Minister inaugurated the project by flagging off 917 modern vehicles.
Rekha Gupta stated that the Delhi government’s goal is not merely to collect garbage but to develop a transparent, citizen-centric solid waste management system based on modern technology. This initiative will make the door-to-door garbage collection system more effective, timely, and accountable, thereby helping to make the capital clean, healthy, and beautiful.
She expressed confidence that through modern technology, robust infrastructure, and public participation, Delhi could be transformed into the country’s cleanest and best-managed capital.
According to a government statement, approximately 4.5 lakh families across 25 wards of the West Delhi municipal area will benefit from this project. The system has been launched in six wards in the first phase, while the remaining 19 wards will be integrated into the system by August 31.
To further strengthen sanitation services, 917 state-of-the-art vehicles and modern garbage collection equipment have been deployed, enabling faster and more effective door-to-door waste collection.
