The Delhi government is launching the ‘Delhi Lakshmi Yojana’ today, Saturday, under which eligible women will receive financial assistance of ₹2,500 per month.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta posted on the social media platform X, “A new chapter of dignity is beginning in the lives of Delhi’s women from August 1st. The online registration portal for the Delhi Lakshmi Yojana has opened today. For some sisters, this will be the first saving in their own name; for others, it will mean money for medicines, books, or essential household items; and for many, it will bring the realisation that they no longer need to depend on others for their every need.”
The CM wrote, “Under the Delhi Lakshmi Yojana, every eligible woman will receive financial support of ₹2,500 per month. This amount will not merely be a deposit in an account; it will instil self-confidence, enhance decision-making power, and provide the courage to live life on one’s own terms. All eligible women should register by visiting the Delhi government’s official website.”
This scheme is one of the government’s key welfare initiatives aimed at providing financial assistance to women from economically weaker families in the national capital. The Delhi government has allocated ₹5,110 crore in its 2026-27 budget for the implementation of this scheme. Officials estimate that once fully implemented, the scheme will benefit over 17 lakh women across Delhi.
Under the eligibility criteria, women aged between 21 and 60 years belonging to families with an annual income of up to ₹2.5 lakh will be eligible for the scheme. Notably, women who pay income tax, file GST returns, are government employees, or are already receiving financial assistance under other government schemes will not be eligible.
Similarly, families owning a four-wheeler, consuming more than 2,400 units of electricity annually, or having family members employed in government departments or Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) will also be excluded from the scheme. Additionally, women with more than three children or a criminal record will not be eligible to avail the benefits of the ‘Delhi Lakshmi Yojana’. This scheme offers beneficiaries two options for receiving financial assistance.
Under the first option, ₹1,500 will be deposited monthly into a Recurring Deposit (RD) or Fixed Deposit (FD) account, while the remaining ₹1,000 will be credited to a Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) wallet, which can be used to purchase approved essential items. Alternatively, beneficiaries may choose to have the entire monthly assistance amount of ₹2,500 deposited directly into an RD or FD account, rather than splitting it between a bank account and a CBDC wallet.
Beyond providing direct financial assistance, the Delhi Lakshmi Yojana aims to promote various social welfare objectives. These include encouraging school enrollment; creating ‘APAAR’ and ‘ABHA’ IDs; ensuring timely vaccination; registering on the ‘Poshan’ tracker; participating in campaigns such as ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ (A Tree in Mother’s Name) and Swachh Bharat Abhiyan; and motivating women to join self-help groups and skill development programs. Applications for the scheme will be processed through a dedicated Delhi Lakshmi Yojana portal.
