National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship 2026: Applications Open for Meritorious Students, Deadline August 31

Date:

New Delhi: Eligible students can submit new and renewal applications for the 2026–27 academic year under the National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme (NMMSS) scheme on the National Scholarship Portal (NSP) by August 31, 2026.

The verification of applications under NMMSS is carried out in two stages:

Level-1 (L1) verification, will be carried out by the Institute Nodal Officer (INO), with the deadline set for September 15, 2026.

Level-2 (L2) verification, will be completed by the District Nodal Officer (DNO), with the deadline set for September 30, 2026.

Additionally, starting from the 2026-27 academic year, students can simultaneously apply for a merit-based scholarship scheme and one or more welfare-based scholarship schemes, provided they meet the eligibility criteria prescribed under the respective schemes.

The objective of the Central Sector Scheme is to provide scholarships to meritorious students from economically weaker sections, thereby reducing the number of students who drop out after the eighth grade and encouraging them to continue their education at the secondary level.

Under this scheme, one lakh new scholarships are awarded annually to eligible Class 9 students in government, government-aided, and local body schools. The scholarship will be renewed for students in Classes 10 to 12 as per the prescribed guidelines.
