The Indian trio of Neeru Dhanda, Ashima Ahlawat, and Manisha Keer won the silver medal in the women’s trap team event on Tuesday, taking the country’s shooting medal tally to 13. The Indian team posted a total score of 328 after three days of the 125-shot qualification round, overcoming the challenge from Kuwait to secure the silver. China won the gold with a total of 346, while Kuwait claimed the bronze with 325 at the Aichi Prefectural General Shooting Gallery.
Neeru also qualified for the individual final after finishing joint-top in the qualification round with a score of 118. Ashima and Manisha missed out on the final, scoring 106 and 104 respectively, and finished in 16th and 23rd place. Meanwhile, the men’s trio of Kynan Chenai, Shapath Bharadwaj, and Azhar Rizvi are competing in both the individual trap shooting qualification and the team event.
On Monday, Esha Singh narrowly missed out on the gold medal in the women’s 25m pistol shooting event at the Asian Games, settling for silver after a dramatic shoot-off. Esha and China’s Xiao Jiaruixuan were tied at 38 hits after 50 shots—equaling the Asian Games record—necessitating a shoot-off for the gold. Both hit four out of five targets in the first shoot-off, before Xiao clinched the title at the Aichi Prefectural General Shooting Gallery by winning the second shoot-off 3-2.
For Esha, this marked her second consecutive Asian Games silver medal in the women’s 25m pistol event. She finished as a runner-up at Hangzhou 2023 after helping Team India—alongside Manu Bhaker and Rhythm Sangwan—win gold. Out of the 13 shooting medals, India has secured only one gold, which came from the mixed 10m air pistol event, where Kamaljeet and Suruchi Singh won the gold medal with a brilliant performance. Overall, India has a total of 46 medals in the current edition, comprising 4 gold, 21 silver, and 21 bronze medals.
