New Delhi: The National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) has secured 2 silver medals and 1 medal for excellence at the 48th WorldSkills Competition 2026 held in Shanghai, showcasing India’s growing strength in the fields of fashion, digital, and retail skills.
More than 1,400 competitors from around 68 countries and regions took part in 64 skill categories at WorldSkills Shanghai 2026, held in Shanghai, China, from September 23 to 26. India participated with its largest-ever contingent of 70 competitors across 63 skills and finished 10th, winning six silver medals and 20 Medals for Excellence.
NIFT took part in four skill categories—Fashion Technology, Digital Interactive Media Design, Retail Sales and Visual Merchandising.
Ajay Gangrade from NIFT Mumbai won a silver medal in Digital Interactive Media Design, while Sania Joshi from NIFT Panchkula also secured a silver medal in Retail Sales. Vidhi Niravkumar Suthar, a graduate of NIFT Gandhinagar, received the Medal for Excellence in Fashion Technology. She completed a four-month training program at NIFT New Delhi under the guidance of Professor (Dr.) Monica Gupta and the NIFT training team. Anuja Ajay Vare from NIFT Bengaluru represented India in Visual Merchandising.
NIFT stated that the WorldSkills experience provides students with valuable insights into international work standards, new technologies, and industry practices, while also helping to strengthen the institute’s training and skill-development systems. The institute credited its students, experts, trainers, officials and the Ministry of Textiles for their contribution to India’s performance at the global competition.
