New Delhi: To enhance pedestrian safety and facilitate smoother movement along a busy corridor, three new foot over-bridges (FOBs) will be constructed on the Delhi-Saharanpur-Dehradun Expressway (NH-709B) in East Delhi.
Shri Harsh Malhotra, Minister of State for Corporate Affairs and Road Transport & Highways and MP for East Delhi, laid the foundation stones for two Foot Over Bridges (FOBs) on September 23, one at Geeta Colony/Gandhi Nagar (km 5+100) and the other at Ramesh Park, Laxmi Nagar (km 2+800). A third FOB has also been approved at km 10+800, near Bhajanpura and Garhi Mendu. The total cost for these three projects will be ₹12.8 crore.
Lifts will be installed at Foot Over Bridges (FOBs) to make crossing the road safer and easier, particularly for the elderly, students, workers, and individuals with mobility issues. These facilities are also expected to help reduce conflicts between pedestrians and vehicles and facilitate smoother traffic flow.
Malhotra stated that these projects would address the pedestrian safety needs along the densely populated Delhi section of the expressway. He also mentioned the ongoing work to improve the corridor, which includes a comprehensive plan for parking facilities beneath the elevated section and beautification.
Solar panels are being installed on the elevated section of the Delhi-Saharanpur-Dehradun Highway to promote the use of renewable energy for highway-related needs and support sustainable infrastructure. The space beneath this elevated corridor is being developed to provide parking and public amenities, such as EV charging stations and restrooms.
