New Delhi: Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan inaugurated the 9th India International Water Week (IIWW) 2026 at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi on September 22 and emphasized the need for sustainable and technology-driven solutions to address the growing challenges related to water.
Organized by the Ministry of Jal Shakti from September 22 to 26, this five-day event is being held under the theme of “Climate-Resilient Water Management.”
On this occasion, the Vice President launched the ‘Sustainable Urban River Management’ (SURM) framework and the AI/ML-based ‘Integrated Reservoir Sediment Management’ initiative, aimed at strengthening climate-resilient water management.
Addressing the gathering, Radhakrishnan stressed the need for water conservation, efficient use, recycling and reuse amid the combined pressures of climate change, urbanisation and population growth. He called for an integrated approach covering river-basin management, groundwater recharge, rainwater harvesting and efficient irrigation.
The Vice-President also highlighted the importance of cooperation among States on water-sharing issues and urged citizens to adopt simple water-saving practices. He said sustainable water management would be critical to India’s development goals as the country moves towards Viksit Bharat 2047.
This program brings together policymakers, experts, delegates, and stakeholders from India and abroad to discuss technical, policy, and environmental solutions for integrated and climate-resilient water management.
