Lieutenant Governor Sandhu Reviewed the Pre-Monsoon Preparations to Prevent Waterlogging

Date:

A crucial meeting of the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) was held to review the progress of key projects related to Delhi’s environment and infrastructure. During the meeting, Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu held detailed discussions on the Yamuna Riverfront Development, the rejuvenation of water bodies, pre-monsoon preparations to prevent waterlogging, and the status of major ongoing socio-economic infrastructure projects in the capital.

In a post on the social media platform ‘X’, the Lieutenant Governor stated that he chaired a meeting with DDA officials at the Yamuna Sports Complex to review the ‘Action Taken Report’ on significant environmental and infrastructure projects across Delhi. In line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a sustainable and world-class capital, comprehensive plans for the Yamuna Riverfront Development and the revitalization of Yamuna Bazaar and its adjacent ghats were discussed in detail.

The review meeting also assessed the time-bound rejuvenation of 101 water bodies under Phase-1, including major projects in Dwarka and Rohini. Furthermore, the progress of major socio-economic infrastructure projects—such as hospitality, healthcare, luxury retail, and logistics hubs—across Delhi was closely reviewed.

To ensure full preparedness ahead of the monsoon, the status of the ‘Desilting Action Plan 2026’ in critical zones and waterlogging-prone areas was rigorously monitored. Additionally, the preparedness of the Central Flood Control Room was assessed ahead of the June 15 deadline. Timely implementation of these initiatives is essential for building a robust, progressive, and developed Delhi.

Earlier, the Lieutenant Governor inspected the on-site rainwater harvesting system at the Yamuna Sports Complex. Following the inspection, he remarked that this system has emerged as a model for sustainable groundwater recharging within Delhi’s civic infrastructure—a model that could be replicated elsewhere. To build an environmentally robust capital and advance towards our shared vision of a developed Delhi, it is crucial to enhance and scale up such water-saving methods.
