BJP MP Sambit Patra highlighted the immediate benefits of the recently implemented GST 2.0 reforms, stating that the initiative has provided significant financial relief to citizens across India. Speaking to the media in Delhi, Patra said that on the very first day of the revised tax structure, people purchasing essential medicines for blood pressure and diabetes saved ₹300–₹500 on their bills.

Patra emphasized that the relief extends beyond common ailments to include life-saving treatments. “Cancer patients have also received considerable relief,” he noted, adding that the revised GST rates have lowered the cost of medicines and insurance premiums across sectors. According to Patra, the decision reflects the Modi government’s commitment to making healthcare more affordable and reducing the economic burden on middle-class families and patients battling critical illnesses.

He further explained that the GST 2.0 reforms are a historic step in India’s taxation history, as it is the first time that taxes on medicines, insurance, and essential commodities have been reduced simultaneously. Patra credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership for ensuring that the reforms prioritize the welfare of ordinary citizens while supporting the healthcare sector’s growth.

The BJP MP concluded by urging the public to take full advantage of the new tax regime, calling it a pro-people reform that will improve access to treatment and strengthen India’s healthcare affordability.
