Emphasizing the evolving nature of warfare and India’s preparedness to meet emerging challenges, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday said that wars are no longer confined to borders but have taken hybrid and asymmetric forms, requiring a modern and adaptive approach to national security.

Speaking at a book launch event in Delhi, Singh said, “The traditional defence outlook is no longer applicable. Our government has carried out several bold and decisive reforms to build future-ready and robust armed forces. These reforms ensure both India’s national security and strategic autonomy.”

Highlighting key milestones, the minister cited the creation of the post of Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) as one of the historic steps toward enhancing coordination among the three services. Referring to Operation Sindoor, Singh lauded the “extraordinary jointness and integration between the three armies,” adding that the operation “shattered Pakistan, and even today it has not forgotten that pain.”

Rajnath Singh also stressed the importance of civil-military fusion, calling it not just integration but a “strategic enabler” that strengthens national capability. “This process is now moving forward rapidly in India,” he noted.

Underscoring the government’s commitment to defence self-reliance, the minister highlighted the rapid growth of domestic defence manufacturing and innovation. “Today, we are rapidly emerging as a manufacturing hub for the defence sector. Domestic defence production now totals more than ₹1.5 lakh crore, of which the private sector contributes around ₹33,000 crore,” he said.

He further added that the government is promoting defence startups, public-private partnerships, and industry-academia collaborations, aligning with the vision of a self-reliant and technologically advanced India.

Rajnath Singh concluded by noting that several of the recommendations from the book being released have already been implemented, reinforcing the government’s proactive stance on defence reforms.
