BJP MP Brij Lal on Tuesday termed the murder of Tripura student Angel Chakma in Dehradun as a “very unfortunate incident” and stressed the need for swift justice through a fast-track court.

Speaking on the matter, Brij Lal said the case should be expedited so that those responsible face the harshest punishment under the law. “This is a very unfortunate incident. This case should be brought to a fast-track court so that the culprits can be given the strictest possible punishment,” he said.

Referring to the role of national institutions, the BJP MP said that the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) takes cognisance of serious and sensitive cases. “NHRC is our national institution. When such sensitive incidents occur, the NHRC takes cognisance of them,” he added.
