New Delhi: External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on Thursday met Venezuela’s Acting President Delcy Rodriguez in New Delhi and appreciated her continued commitment to strengthening the partnership between India and Venezuela.
The External Affairs Minister expressed hope that Rodriguez’s meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi would further enhance bilateral cooperation. “I was delighted to meet with Acting President Delcy Rodriguez of Venezuela in New Delhi today,” External Affairs Minister Jaishankar said after the meeting. We truly appreciate his long support for the friendship between India and Venezuela. His meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi will further strengthen our cooperation.”
Later in the day, Rodriguez will meet Prime Minister Modi to discuss all aspects of India-Venezuela relations and explore avenues for further cooperation in areas such as energy security, trade and investment, pharmaceuticals, healthcare, transport and renewable energy. Rodriguez arrived in New Delhi on Wednesday on a five-day visit to India aimed at further deepening ties between the two countries.

During her visit, Acting President Delcy Rodriguez will hold bilateral talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. “This visit will further deepen India-Venezuela relations and strengthen the momentum gained in the bilateral partnership,” The Ministry of External Affairs shared a post on X.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the Venezuelan delegation accompanying Rodrigues will visit several sites related to the energy, pharmaceuticals and auto sectors to gain insights into India’s technological and industrial capabilities and explore opportunities for cooperation.
“India has been an important partner of Venezuela in the investment and investmentenergy sectors. Indian public sector enterprises have made significant investments in Venezuela in the energy sector, and are keen to explore opportunities to further expand their presence,” the Ministry of External Affairs said. India and Venezuela enjoy cordial and friendly relations characterised by cooperation in the energy sector, trade, and a shared commitment to the global South.
The Foreign Ministry said the visit is expected to further strengthen bilateral relations and enhance cooperation between the two countries in various fields. Rodriguez was sworn in as Venezuela’s interim president on January 5, after the US invaded the South American country and “captured” President Nicolas Maduro and his wife.
