New Delhi: The third four-day Global Conclave (GCPRS) and International Exhibition on Plastic Recycling and Sustainability kicked off on Friday at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi. Policymakers, industry leaders, researchers, and technology experts came together to discuss sustainable solutions for plastic waste management.
The event was inaugurated by Tejveer Singh, Secretary of the Department of Chemicals and Petrochemicals (DCPC) under the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers. Addressing the inaugural session, Singh emphasized the need for coordinated global efforts to combat plastic pollution and urged stakeholders to engage with international initiatives, such as the UN proposed ‘Global Plastics Treaty’. He stated that an integrated approach to plastic production, usage, and waste management is essential to tackle the growing environmental challenge.
Highlighting the importance of a circular economy, Singh said plastic recycling should be viewed as a modern, technology-driven and high-value industry. He encouraged the adoption of global best practices and advanced recycling technologies while calling on the industry to develop sustainable solutions for difficult-to-recycle plastic waste, particularly small packaging materials.
The Secretary also stressed stronger collaboration between industry and academia to drive innovation and assured departmental support for such partnerships. He further acknowledged the contribution of informal waste collectors, urging their integration into the formal waste management ecosystem. This conclave is being jointly organized by the ‘All India Plastics Manufacturers Association’ (AIPMA) and the ‘Chemicals and Petrochemicals Manufacturers Association’ (CPMA), with the support of the ‘Department of Chemicals and Petrochemicals’ and several central ministries.
Over 400 exhibitors are showcasing advancements in recycling technology, sustainable materials, and waste management solutions. The event is expected to attract more than 50,000 business visitors from India and abroad. This conclave is taking place amidst rapid growth in the recycling sector; India’s recycled plastic market is projected to reach US$ 3.81 billion by 2032, reflecting the rising demand for sustainable recycling technologies.
