BJP MP Biplab Kumar Deb Criticizes Rahul Gandhi, Questions His Role as Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition

Delhi — BJP MP Biplab Kumar Deb has launched a sharp critique of Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Lok Sabha, questioning his effectiveness and role in Indian politics. Deb accused Gandhi of failing to engage with the public and described his efforts as mere attempts to seek attention.

Speaking about Rahul Gandhi’s performance, Deb stated, “He doesn’t do any work for the public. He doesn’t go among the people, so what will he do?” He further added that the position of the country’s opposition leader traditionally carries significant weight, calibre, and respect — qualities he believes are currently missing.

Deb lamented this situation as a loss both for the BJP and for the country, suggesting that Gandhi’s leadership does not live up to the expectations associated with his role. “The country's opposition leader has a certain weight, a certain calibre, and a certain tradition. That’s a loss for us, and a loss for the country,” he said.

This criticism highlights ongoing political tensions between the ruling BJP and the opposition Congress party, especially as the opposition grapples with challenges in mounting an effective challenge in Parliament.

Rahul Gandhi, a prominent Congress leader and former party president, has faced repeated criticism from BJP leaders for his political strategies and public engagement. This latest statement by Biplab Kumar Deb adds to the continuing discourse about the role and relevance of opposition leadership in India’s parliamentary democracy.

As political debates intensify ahead of future elections, the effectiveness and visibility of opposition leaders like Rahul Gandhi remain under close scrutiny.
